A new mineral found in the meteorite Yamato 691 has been named "Wassonite" in honor of professor John Wasson. Wassonite is a titanium sulfide possessing a unique crystal structure not previously observed in nature. The honor highlights John's "achievements across a broad swath of meteorite and impact research, including the use of neutron activation data to classify meteorites and to formulate models for the chemical makeup of bulk chondrites." Congratulations John!
